Beschrijving voorzijde A faithful colour reproduction of Spain's first postage stamp of 1850, featuring a left-facing diademed effigy of Queen Isabella II of Spain within a rectangular stamp-like vignette. The legend around the design commemorates the 175th anniversary of the first Spanish postal stamp, incorporating the denomination '6 CUARTOS' and the word 'FRANCO' as they appeared on the original stamp. The inscriptions 'CORREOS', '1850', and 'ESPAÑA' are also present within the design. The overall composition faithfully replicates the engraved portrait style of the mid-19th century original stamp.

Aanvullende informatie

Spain issued its first adhesive postage stamp — the 6 cuartos depicting Queen Isabella II — on January 1, 1850, making the country one of the earliest adopters of prepaid postal reform in continental Europe. The design was engraved by Bartolomé Coromina, and the stamp's introduction followed the British Penny Black by less than a decade.

The 175th anniversary falls in 2025, which prompted this commemorative issue.
