Issued by the Národná banka Slovenska to mark the centenary of the founding of Czechoslovakia on 28 October 1918, this coin commemorates a state that no longer exists — dissolved peacefully on 1 January 1993 in what became known as the Velvet Divorce. Slovakia's willingness to celebrate that shared founding, a quarter-century after separation, reflects how cleanly the split was handled compared to nearly every other post-communist partition of the same period.
