| Aanvullende informatie |
This piece belongs to Monnaie de Paris's long-running "Coin of History" series, which cycles through figures considered formative to the French national narrative. La Fayette's inclusion is hardly surprising — his role in both the American Revolutionary War and the early French Revolution made him a transatlantic figure of unusual political reach. He arrived in America in 1777 as a nineteen-year-old volunteer, was wounded at Brandywine, and became one of Washington's most trusted commanders. Congress granted him honorary U.S. citizenship, a status extended to only a handful of foreign nationals in history.
The .333 fineness places this firmly in the billon category — more copper than silver by weight.
