The surrounding legend reads 'LUD . XVI . D . G . FR . ET NAV . REX' (Ludovicus XVI Dei Gratia Franciae et Navarrae Rex), referencing his title as King of France and Navarre by the Grace of God. A mint mark appears at the base of the bust. The design is a faithful historicised reproduction evoking the aesthetic of 18th-century French royal coinage, in tribute to the La Fayette commemorative series. |
