Reverse description The reverse portrays the legendary scene of Emperor Charlemagne (Kaiser Karl) and his armoured guards in an enchanted slumber within a cave of the Untersberg, rendered in a richly detailed relief composition. At the center, Charlemagne is depicted seated at a round table, his long beard shown encircling the table twice in accordance with the prophecy of the legend. The figures are depicted with a Romantic narrative style consistent with Austrian commemorative coinage tradition. The inscription KAISER KARL IM UNTERSBERG arcs along the upper portion of the coin's periphery.
