Obverse description The obverse features the Maltese coat of arms at center, depicting a shield charged with a white George Cross on the dexter and vertical red and white stripes on the sinister, surmounted by a mural crown with five towers. The shield is flanked by two olive branches tied at the base. Beneath the coat of arms, a scrolled ribbon bears the legend REPUBBLIKA TA' MALTA in raised Latin lettering. The inscription MALTA arcs along the upper left field and the date 2014 along the upper right, with twelve five-pointed stars arranged around the inner border in the style of the European Union emblem.
