Catherine Meurisse is among the few living cartoonists to receive this honor from Monnaie de Paris, best known internationally for surviving the January 2015 Charlie Hebdo attack — she arrived late to the office that morning. Elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2020, her inclusion in this series reflects a broader institutional effort to expand the definition of fine art to encompass bande dessinée and press illustration.
The billon composition — just a third silver — places this squarely in the circulating commemorative tier, struck for face value release rather than collector-grade distribution.
