Reverse description A richly detailed naïve-style composition evokes the natural and cultural landscape of Austria. The upper field depicts an alpine scene with ibex and chamois on rocky peaks surmounted by a cross, rendered in a stylized, folk-art manner. The middle register features a lakeside environment with deciduous trees, a fishing boat with a net, and aquatic creatures including fish and a serpentine beast. In the lower field, a sailing vessel navigates stylized waves populated by decorative fish, beneath a radiant sun at upper right. The legend KÄRNTEN KOROSKA curves along the lower rim in both German and Slovenian, identifying the Austrian federal state of Carinthia.

Additional information

Part of Austria's "Land of Your Dreams" series celebrating the country's intangible cultural heritage, this issue coincides with falconry's inscription onto UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010 — a listing Austria shared with ten other nations. The sport has been practiced continuously in the Alpine regions for over a millennium.
