This piece belongs to Austria's nine-part "Federal Provinces" series, each coin dedicated to one of the Bundesländer. Burgenland is the youngest of them — transferred from Hungary to Austria in 1921 under the Treaty of Trianon, and the only province whose borders were partly decided by a local plebiscite, with the city of Sopron voting to remain Hungarian rather than join Austria.
The copper composition places it firmly in the collector-only category; it was never intended for circulation.
