Issued to mark the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth, this coin was part of the Netherlands' broader commemorative program timed to coincide with the national "Rembrandt Year" celebrations in 2006. The Rijksmuseum organized one of the largest exhibitions of his work ever assembled, and the Dutch state leaned heavily into the occasion across cultural and monetary channels alike.
