Issued to mark the baptism performed by Pope Francis on January 12, 2014, when he baptized 32 infants in the Sistine Chapel — his first such ceremony as pontiff. The Vatican struck this piece under the authority of the Holy See's Philatelic and Numismatic Office, which has managed Vatican coin production since the post-conciliar restructuring of the 1960s.
