The inscriptions record the founding of the Lithuanian Army on 23 November 1918, the establishment of the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union on 27 June 1919, and the independence battles of 1918–1920, including engagements at Jieznas (10 February 1919), Radviliškis (21–22 November 1919), and Giedraičiai–Širvintos (17–21 November 1920). The legend VALSTYBĖS ATKŪRIMAS 100 commemorates the centenary of the restoration of the state. Issued to mark the centenary of Lithuania's re-established armed forces, this coin commemorates the military structures that formed almost immediately after the declaration of independence in February 1918 — before the state had a functioning government, a treasury, or defined borders. Lithuanian forces spent the following three years fighting simultaneously against Bolshevik, Bermontian, and Polish forces to hold that independence together.
The Šaulių Sąjunga, the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union, is among the organisations honoured here. Founded in 1919, it was dissolved under Soviet occupation and its revival after 1989 was one of the more deliberate acts of institutional memory in the post-Soviet Baltic states.
