Issued as part of Greece's long-running ancient philosophers commemorative program, this coin marks the 2,400th anniversary of Aristotle's birth in 384 BC. Born in Stagira in the Chalcidice peninsula, Aristotle spent two decades at Plato's Academy before Philip II of Macedon appointed him tutor to the young Alexander — a relationship that would prove consequential for the entire Hellenistic world.
The .925 silver used here is finer than the earlier issues in this series, which ran at .900.
