附加信息

Dubček's 2021 commemorative coincides with the centenary of his birth and arrives at a moment when Slovak-Czech relations around the memory of 1968 remain quietly complicated. His role as First Secretary during the Prague Spring made him briefly the most internationally recognizable Slovak politician of the twentieth century, yet the Czechoslovak federal arrangement he operated within meant Slovak national identity was always awkwardly subordinate to the reform socialism narrative the West projected onto him.

After the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact invasion in August 1968, Dubček was forced to sign the Moscow Protocol and later expelled from the party entirely, eventually working as a forestry clerk in Bratislava — a deliberate humiliation by the normalization regime.
