Beschrijving keerzijde A draped allegorical female figure, laurel-crowned and rendered in a neoclassical style, is seated facing left in a flowing robe, her right hand raised toward her head. To her right, a large dove in flight carries an olive branch, set against a background of twelve stars arranged in a circular arc referencing the European Union. The denomination '10 EURO' appears at the upper right of the field. The commemorative legend '70 ANNI DI PACE IN EUROPA' curves along the lower border, flanked by the dates 1945 and 2015, with the Rome Mint mark 'R' at the lower left.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued in 2015 to mark seventy years since the end of World War II in Europe, this coin appeared the same year the EU was grappling with the Greek debt crisis and a migration emergency that strained the very institutions built on postwar cooperation. The Italian mint chose silver rather than the bimetallic format used for many commemorative euros, a deliberate distinction signaling the gravity of the occasion.

Italy lost roughly 500,000 military personnel and civilians during the conflict — a figure that gave Roman authorities particular reason to treat the anniversary seriously rather than as a routine commemorative exercise.
