One of dozens of local "euro anticipation" notes issued across France in the mid-1990s, this piece belongs to a peculiar transitional moment when municipalities and regional associations printed quasi-currency to promote both their territory and the coming single currency. The dual denomination — francs and euros — was a deliberate statement rather than a conversion table, positioning Blaye's Gironde identity alongside a monetary future that would only officially arrive in 2002.
Bernard Veyri's engraving gives this note more craft than most regional promotional issues could claim. Printed at Périgueux by ITVF — the same facility responsible for French postage stamps and official fiscal documents — the production quality is considerably above what the purely commemorative nature of the piece required.
