Germany's commemorative euro program has issued this type in two compositions simultaneously — a copper-nickel circulation strike and a sterling silver proof — a practice the Bundesrepublik has maintained for most of its commemorative series since the early 2000s. The copper-nickel version, designated with the KN suffix in Jäger's catalog, was struck across multiple mints, each applying its own mint mark: A for Berlin, D for Munich, F for Stuttgart, G for Karlsruhe, J for Hamburg.
The automobile's 125th anniversary dates the invention to 1886, when Benz filed the patent for his Motorwagen on January 29th of that year.
