Jozef Dekret-Matejovie (1774–1841) was a Slovak forestry scientist whose 1807 treatise on rational forest management was among the first systematic works on sustainable silviculture published in the region — a direct response to the widespread deforestation accelerating across the Habsburg-controlled Carpathian highlands during the Napoleonic period. The National Bank of Slovakia has issued a series of silver commemoratives honoring figures of Slovak intellectual history largely absent from broader European numismatic recognition.
