| Additional information |
Janko Jesenský was a Slovak poet, prose writer, and lawyer who spent years in Austro-Hungarian prisons and later in Russian captivity during the First World War — experiences that sharpened the satirical edge running through much of his mature work. After 1918 he became a senior official in the Czechoslovak administration, eventually serving as Governor of the Bratislava Region. The 2024 issue marks the 150th anniversary of his birth.
