| 裏面の説明 | The reverse features a bold numeral '10' prominently displayed within a raised square cartouche dominating the central field, evoking the design aesthetic of European banknotes. The denomination legend EURO appears beneath the numeral within the cartouche. Two horizontal security-style bands flank the cartouche on either side. The date 1997 is inscribed along the lower field beneath the cartouche, and a partial arc of twelve five-pointed stars is visible along the upper rim. |

Germany's "Europa" series, launched in the 1990s, was issued in direct response to the approaching monetary union — a political gesture toward a currency that would, within five years, make the Deutsche Mark obsolete. The irony was not lost on collectors at the time.
The .925 silver plating on the proof strikes, rather than solid silver throughout, kept production costs controlled while maintaining the visual finish expected of a commemorative issue. Mintage was split across five facilities — Berlin, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Munich, and Stuttgart — each adding their own mint mark.
