| Obverse description | The obverse features a three-quarter facing effigy of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, rendered in fine relief against a plain field. The papal portrait is framed by the encircling legend CITTA DEL VATICANO (Vatican City) positioned along the upper periphery, while the date and mint mark appear in the lower field. The design is further embellished by twelve five-pointed stars of the European Union arranged around the inner border. Engravers' initials D.L. and M.C.C. INC. appear within the field adjacent to the portrait. |
