| Aversbeschreibung | Left-facing effigy of King Albert II, rendered in high relief, occupies the central field and is encircled by the twelve stars of the European Union. The royal monogram, comprising a capital 'A' surmounted by a crown with the Roman numeral 'II' below, appears among the stars. The year of issue is inscribed within the star circle. The portrait was engraved by Jan Alfons Keustermans in a restrained, naturalistic style characteristic of late twentieth-century Belgian coinage. |

| Reversbeschreibung | The reverse features the face value '10 EURO CENT' prominently displayed alongside a cartographic representation of the fifteen member states of the European Union as of the coin's issue date, rendered in the first 'geographical' map design common to all eurozone nations. The initials 'LL' appearing in the lower field denote the engraver Luc Luycx, designer of the common reverse. The map and denomination are set against a finely lined background. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
Belgium was among the eleven founding members of the eurozone when coins entered circulation on 1 January 2002, though these pieces were struck from 1999 onward as part of the massive pre-launch production program coordinated across participating mints. The so-called "first map" reverse — showing the EU's member states without the eastward expansion of 2004 — became obsolete almost immediately, replaced after just a few years in circulation when ten new countries joined and a redesigned map was required.
The 1999-dated pieces were minted strictly for the starter kits distributed to Belgian households in late 2001, not for general circulation.
