| Obverse description | The obverse features a detailed rendition of the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's celebrated neoclassical triumphal arch, depicted in full frontal view with its six Doric columns and the Quadriga sculpture crowning the attic. The design was engraved by Reinhart Heinsdorff and occupies the central field with strong relief. The date '2002' is inscribed in the lower exergual area, with the mint mark 'A' (Berlin) positioned immediately below. Twelve five-pointed stars, symbols of the European Union, are arranged in a circle around the inner border of the coin. |
