| Reverse description | The reverse presents a detailed portrait bust of Pieter Cornelisz. Hooft, the celebrated Dutch Golden Age poet and historian, depicted three-quarter facing left with a beard and period costume featuring an ornate collar and shoulder drapery. Behind the effigy, a panoramic view of Amsterdam's canal architecture is depicted, including stepped gable houses, a bridge with arched spans, and a historic tower to the left. A heraldic cartouche appears to the right of the portrait. The inscription 'AMSTERDAM 1997' curves along the upper legend. The name and life dates 'PIETER CORNELISZ. HOOFT 1581-1647' appear in the lower right field. |
