| 背面描述 | Bust of Eleftherios Venizelos facing right, wearing spectacles, set against a wavy sea background evoking the Aegean. Superimposed below the portrait is a relief map of Crete, with the Greek legend 'ΚΡΗΤΗ' (Crete) inscribed beneath it. The entire central design is enclosed within a wide border decorated with an encircling olive wreath on a mirror-polished field. The dates '1913' above and '2021' below frame the composition, commemorating the union of Crete with Greece. |

Crete's autonomous status under Ottoman suzerainty ended in 1913 when the island formally united with Greece following the First Balkan War — the culmination of decades of revolts, massacres, and Great Power interventions that had kept the island in a state of suspended sovereignty since 1898. This issue commemorates the centenary-plus-eight of that union, a delay likely attributable to the Greek debt crisis years, which severely curtailed the Bank of Greece's commemorative minting program through the mid-2010s.
