The circular legend REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA runs along the upper and lateral periphery, with the date 1953 placed in the exergue flanked by two pellets. The word PROVA (proof/pattern) appears in the left field adjacent to the sphere, identifying this piece as a pattern strike. A beaded inner border encircles the entire design.
