Opmerkingen

Banco Nacional Ultramarino occupied an unusual position in Portuguese colonial finance — it held the right of note issue not just for one territory but across multiple overseas provinces simultaneously, meaning the same parent institution was printing money for Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, and others in parallel. This 1921 issue predates the administrative fragmentation of those currency systems, when a single BNU series could circulate across more than one colony depending on the overprint or payable clause.

Bradbury Wilkinson handled much of BNU's output during this period, a relationship that persisted across several decades of colonial note production.
