| Obverse description | Central field bears a four-line Latin inscription within an elaborately worked cartouche formed by two confronted fantastic sea creatures — hippocamps or similar hybrid beasts — with serpentine, intertwined tails. The cartouche frame is richly ornamented in a baroque style, with the inscription occupying the full interior space. The date 1714 appears as part of the legend. The overall design reflects the high-quality baroque die-cutting characteristic of early eighteenth-century Swiss civic coinage. |
