Beschrijving voorzijde Within a beaded inner circle on this square klippe flan, the quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg are displayed on an ornate heraldic shield surmounted by a pontifical hat (galero) with pendant tassels arranged in tiers on either side, the shield incorporating the traditional Salzburg ecclesiastical and personal arms of Archbishop Max Gandolph von Kuenburg. The date 1668 is divided across the lower field flanking the base of the shield. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner border, reading: MAXIMIL : GANDOLPHꝰ D : G : ARCHIEPS : SALISB : SE : AP : LE : S : R : I : PR : 16 68, identifying the archbishop by name and his full titles as Archbishop of Salzburg, Apostolic Legate, and Prince of the Holy Roman Empire.

Beschrijving keerzijde Within a beaded inner circle, the two patron saints of Salzburg, Saint Rupert and Saint Virgil, are depicted standing in full pontifical vestments, each wearing a mitre and holding a crozier, facing one another with a model of Salzburg Cathedral between them at the base of the composition, rendered in fine relief characteristic of the Salzburg mint's Baroque engraving tradition. The circular Latin legend surrounding the inner border reads: SS : RVDBERTVS · ET · VIRGILIVS · PATRONI · SALISBVRGENSES ·, identifying the two saints as the patron saints of Salzburg. The square klippe format lends the reverse a stately, ceremonial character befitting this high-denomination presentation piece.
