Multiple-ducat pieces of this scale were not circulation coinage in any practical sense — they functioned as presentation gifts, diplomatic instruments, and demonstrations of mint capability. The Prague mint's output of large gold multiples under Leopold I coincided with the early years of his reign, when establishing imperial prestige after the disruptions of the Thirty Years' War still carried genuine political urgency. Prague had only recently recovered its status as a functioning imperial mint.
The .986 fineness is consistent with ducat standard gold maintained across Habsburg minting throughout the period, regulated by imperial ordinance rather than local Bohemian discretion.
