Leopold I struck multiple-ducat pieces for Transylvania as political instruments as much as monetary ones — the principality had been wrested from Ottoman suzerainty following the campaigns of 1683–1699, and large gold presentation multiples reinforced Habsburg authority over newly consolidated territory. These were not pocket change; 10-ducat pieces functioned as gifts to nobility and military commanders, and most surviving examples show no circulation whatsoever for the obvious reason that they were never intended to circulate.
The 1695 date falls squarely within the Great Turkish War, one year before the decisive Habsburg victory at Zenta.
