| Obverse description | Saint George depicted in full armour on horseback, his lance thrust downward to slay a winged dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves, rendered in high relief with exceptional baroque artistry. The saint's horse rears dramatically to the left, its elaborate caparison and musculature finely detailed. A circular French-language legend surrounds the central device within a plain inner border, and the coin's rim is ornamented with a continuous beaded or granulated border. The composition commemorates the insignia of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, of which the image of Saint George is the patron emblem. |
