Johann Jakob Khuen von Belasi served as Archbishop of Salzburg from 1560 to 1586, one of the longer tenures of the Counter-Reformation period, during which the Salzburg mint produced some of the most ambitious multiple-ducat pieces in the Habsburg sphere. The 10-ducat denomination was never a coin of commerce — it was a deliberate display of ecclesiastical wealth and political standing, struck in small numbers for presentation at court or to important visitors.
Fr#622 is among the rarest Salzburg gold multiples of the sixteenth century, with surviving examples numbering in the single digits across major collections.
