| Obverse description | Draped bust of Empress Maria Theresa facing left, her elaborately curled and pinned hair rendered in fine relief, with a floral ornament at the shoulder of her garment. The encircling Latin legend reads MARIA THERESIA IMPERATRIX GER, divided by the birth and death dates 1717 and 1780 flanking the portrait at mid-field. The issue year 1957 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the bust. The portrait is executed in a bold, high-relief medallic style characteristic of mid-twentieth century commemorative goldsmithing. |
