Obverse description Armored right-facing bust of Gustav I (Gustav Vasa), King of Sweden, depicted in three-quarter profile wearing plate armor and holding a sword, with an orb visible; the effigy is rendered in high relief in a Renaissance medallic style. Beneath the bust appears the coat of arms of the House of Vasa. The encircling legend records the king's name, title, and the commemorative date range spanning his reign's quatercentenary.

Reverse description Central cartouche bearing the denomination numeral 'X' above the inscription 'DUCAT', set at the intersection of an elaborate eight-armed foliate cross with stylized lily blossoms filling each angle between the arms, all in high relief. The fineness mark '980' appears in the lower field below the central cross. The peripheral legend is divided between the upper arc and lower arc of the coin, encircling the entire design.
