Reverse description The god Mercury, winged and bearing his caduceus staff, hovers aloft and gestures toward a reclining female figure personifying Security or Hamburg, seated at rest upon the shore. To the left, storm clouds gather over a turbulent sea filled with numerous sailing vessels, evoking the perils of maritime trade. To the right in the background, a detailed panoramic view of the city of Hamburg with its characteristic spires and waterfront is depicted. The chronogram date CIƆIƆCCLXV (1765) appears within the reverse legend, and the mint name HAMBURGI is inscribed in the field.
