Obverse description A rampant lion of Zürich occupies the central field, depicted in fine engraved detail facing right and brandishing a sword aloft in its right forepaw, while resting its left forepaw upon the city's heraldic shield displaying the characteristic diagonal bipartite design. The lion stands on a grassy ground line within an inner beaded border. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONUMENTVM · AMICITIÆ · ET · HONORIS · (A monument of friendship and honour), separated by small rosette stops, and runs along the outer border of the flan.
