| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a dynamic equestrian portrait of Emperor Rudolf II in full armour, mounted on a rearing horse to the left, holding an orb in his raised right hand and a sword at his side. A small flowering plant appears in the lower field beneath the horse. The composition is executed in the bold, high-relief hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century German multiple-ducat pieces. The encircling Latin legend reads RUDOL.II.RO.IMP.VIC.AC.TRIUM.SEMP.AUG., proclaiming Rudolf II as Roman Emperor, Ever Augustus, Victor and Triumphant, all contained within a beaded border. |
