| Beschrijving voorzijde | Emperor Otto I depicted on horseback in full regalia, riding to the right, holding a scepter in his raised right hand. The date, when present, appears in the exergue below the horse. The surrounding legend is interrupted at four points by small heraldic shields of arms, dividing the inscription into four segments. The equestrian portrait is rendered in the elaborate Late Renaissance style characteristic of Magdeburg municipal coinage of the period. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | A large crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed in the field, its wings spread and richly detailed with layered feathers. Upon the eagle's breast is superimposed a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of Magdeburg, elaborately decorated with mantling at the base. The circular legend in Latin runs along the full periphery of the coin, separated from the central device by a fine inner circle. The overall design reflects the high-quality engraving tradition of late sixteenth-century German municipal coinage. |
