| Opmerkingen |
The American Bank Note Company held a near-monopoly on Greek currency printing through much of the late nineteenth century, and this series reflects that relationship cleanly. ABNC's work for Greece during this period was produced entirely in New York, shipped across the Atlantic, and issued through the National Bank of Greece — which at the time still held the exclusive note-issuing privilege for the country, a concession it would retain until the Bank of Greece's establishment in 1928.
The four-year date span on this series typically indicates multiple printings against a single approved plate, with issue dates applied individually rather than engraved into the design.
