| Obverse description | Draped and armored bust of Ferrante II Gonzaga facing right, with curly hair and a full beard, clad in ornate armor with a mantle draped over the shoulders and a decorative chain at the chest. The effigy is rendered in high relief in a bold late-Renaissance style. The circular Latin legend runs along the inner border, which is defined by a beaded inner rim. The field is broad and slightly concave, characteristic of large hammered gold multiples of the period. |

Ferrante II Gonzaga ruled Guastalla as a small but ambitious satellite of the broader Gonzaga network, and large multiple-ducat gold pieces of this type were almost never intended for commerce. The 10 Doppie denomination — essentially twenty ducats' worth of gold in a single flan — functioned as a presentation piece, distributed as diplomatic currency at courts where the physical weight of a gift carried political meaning.
Guastalla's mint output for this period is exceptionally sparse, and CNI IX documents only a single die marriage for this type.
