Liberia's early 2000s commemorative program was one of the most prolific — and commercially cynical — operations in modern numismatics. Coins like this one were produced in bulk by European minting contractors targeting the collector novelty market, with Liberia lending its issuing authority to designs that had no connection to the country's history, economy, or fauna. The zebra is not native to Liberia.
