The bird faces left with its elaborate plumage and tail feathers radiating outward dramatically, framed by a circular solar motif with flame-like rays emanating from behind. Decorative cloud and wave scrollwork fills the surrounding field, and the cyclical Chinese sexagenary characters 癸酉, denoting the year Gui-You corresponding to 1993, appear to the lower left of the rooster.
