Obverse description The arms of Singapore occupy the central field, depicting a shield charged with a crescent moon and five stars arranged in a circle, supported on the dexter side by a lion rampant and on the sinister side by a tiger rampant, both rendered in high relief. A ribbon scroll below the shield bears the national motto in Malay. The country name appears in four scripts around the periphery: Latin (SINGAPURA) along the upper arc, Tamil (சிங்கப்பூர்) to the left, Chinese (新加坡) to the right, and SINGAPORE at the base. The date 1996 is inscribed above the lower legend in the field.
