Obverse description The arms of Singapore occupy the central field, depicting a shield charged with a crescent moon and five five-pointed stars, supported on the dexter by a lion and on the sinister by a tiger, both rendered in high relief. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the national motto MAJULAH SINGAPURA in Latin script. The country name appears in four languages arranged around the periphery: SINGAPURA arching across the upper legend, SINGAPORE along the lower legend, with the Chinese characters 新加坡 to the right and the Tamil script சிங்கப்பூர் to the left. The date 1988 is positioned in the lower field, below the coat of arms.
