Singapore's Lunar New Year commemorative series launched in 1992 with the Year of the Monkey, issued under the Board of Commissioners of Currency — an authority that was dissolved and folded into the Monetary Authority of Singapore just two years after this Dog issue struck. The 1994 piece falls near the end of that institutional era, giving the BCCS series a compressed, almost accidental coherence as a collecting set.
