Additional information

The Marshall Islands issued a sprawling series of $10 brass pieces in the early 1990s commemorating World War II aircraft, and the Yak-9 entry honors the Soviet fighter that outperformed the Luftwaffe's Bf 109G at low and medium altitudes on the Eastern Front. By 1944, Yak-9 variants equipped the bulk of Soviet fighter aviation. The Marshall Islands had no particular connection to Soviet air power — these were collector tokens issued under broad licensing arrangements, distributed primarily through Franklin Mint-style direct-mail channels rather than any domestic circulation.
