The "without black bars" designation refers to an omission in the serial number printing — certain 2006-dated notes from this series were released lacking the black rectangular bars that typically bracket the serial number block. Whether this reflects a deliberate design revision mid-run or a quality control lapse at De La Rue has not been definitively established, but the distinction is significant enough to merit a separate Pick listing.
Collectors should note that P#48 and its "with bars" counterpart circulated concurrently, making attribution dependent entirely on close inspection of the serial number field.
