Nauru's gold miniature series from the mid-2000s was produced primarily for the German collector market, capitalizing on European interest in commemorative issues following reunification-era nostalgia. Brandt's Kniefall in Warsaw in December 1970 — his spontaneous genuflection at the memorial to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising — remains one of the most discussed gestures in postwar European diplomacy, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize the following year.
Nauru itself had no meaningful connection to Brandt; these were frankly revenue-generating pieces for an island nation whose phosphate wealth had nearly evaporated by 2005.
