Algeria's War of Independence began on November 1, 1954, with coordinated FLN attacks across the country — a date the Algerian government still marks as a national holiday. The conflict lasted until 1962 and cost an estimated one million Algerian lives. Liberia's involvement is purely commercial: the country has issued hundreds of commemorative coins for foreign historical events since the 1990s, functioning effectively as a licensing operation for novelty collector pieces rather than as a sovereign issuing authority with any connection to the subject matter.
